Still have a landline here too. Hard wired to the wall, so still works if eletricity goes off. Makes it much easier for emergency response to find you. Just dial 911 and lay the phone down. Odds are with a cell, you have to tell them where you are. Tower signals just give a general location, not exact.

We need rain. Maybe about middle of next week. Only about 30% chance at this point. Temps have been decent for awhile, just mid 80's.

Took the grandkids to the Dairy B for ice cream tonight. Great little place. Has a couple of walkup windows, and always a crowd there from 7:00 to close. It only opens from June 1 until Sept 30, noon to 9:00 daily. 5 med cones, a hot fudge sundea, a banana split, and a "sunken ship", $14.

ice cream yuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuum !

yes a landline....I do not own a cell phone what did you think I was talking about? (ok I have an old cell phone from when I worked in japan, its now....12 years old and my contract on it ended in 05 when I left japan, yes it still works, but the battery wont if I take it off its charger ).

I see no reason to get a cell phone either---either I am at home or in the car driving someplace (like a doctor appointment, massage, etc) where you cant operate a cell phone anyways....and most of the other times I am with my hubby who does have one...so why exactly should I spend more than $60/month for something I would NEVER use? (the only calls I get here are from telemarketers--and yes my hubby gets those on his cell as well even though they arent supposed to call a cell number).

and yeah, a home phone usually works during a power outage (I say usually since my last phone--which is the one I am replacing---would die at times for no reason, and no, it is WIRED not wireless-I HATE wireless)

now I want ice cream too

Cosy I am with you there, I dislike wireless also. I do have a cell phone but rarely use it. As far as I can see it is just a way for the kids to let me know what they have forgotten to take to school and to keep me busy ferrying stuff in for them!

Wow that place sounds like it is reasonably priced. Would love to have a place like that. And ice cream is awesome. Could always go for ice cream.

We don't even have a place for a landline in our apartment. If we do it is either hidden or it is in the bathroom where what looks like should be a telephone hookup is. (It has a solid cover over it, so no way to see the plug) Being out and about as much as I am during the school year I need a cell phone. Plus it is how my coworkers and I find each other during events or for other things. So for me it is important.

hm, unless you apartment was built in the last say 5 years, there is a landline (usually one in the bedroom and one in the living room or kitchen), and yes they could have put a plate over it, but there should still be one.

When I lived in japan I thought I would need one for the same reason, however, being on our own at most schools I barely used the thing--in the 2 years I was there I made less than 30 calls (we did more texting as well--and it was free for those on the same phone carrier). Now I dont go to many places so I dont really see my need for one.

and thanks Aeronwen

It is older than that and I swear, there isn't. We looked everywhere. Not one to be found. Just the circular one in the bathroom with a bell on it. Sure looks like it should be a phone jack... Just a super weird location.

Guess I just like to talk a lot? Idk lol

lol. It could be that they remodeled and covered them up, but then they would have to assume that all their new tenants would not want a landline for any reason.

well, got some shakes for dinner tonite--not quite ice cream but good enough for now.

Maybe. Our old neighbors across the hall had a landline I believe. We used to hear it ring all the time. Either that or they left their cell phone in the living room all the time and had it set up to ring like an old landline. If it is somewhere there is no way I can find it now. Not unless we clear out the apartment.

We had pizza casserole. Pretty good stuff.

Ya it is pasta, browned hamburger, and some spices with mozzarella cheese on top. It's surprisingly yummy.

Ick, hope you get rid of that cough soon cosy!

We had storms roll through here as well. Some crazy rain for a while as well. Figures since I had just washed and waxed my wife's car early that day.

Speaking of that car... After washing and waxing it (which required turning it on and off multiple times) I went to go move it and I couldn't turn the key. The ignition switch was stuck, so I could get the key in but couldn't turn it to start the car. Talked with Honda, they told me I would have to have it towed. Told them nope, give me another option or something to try. Guy told me to disconnect the battery and see if that resets the system. So I tried that, didn't work. Did a lot of research on my phone (yay for smart phones) since I wasn't home. I finally found a site that said to try to turn the steering wheel. Mine was locked since it was off, but they said to turn it towards the springy feel. So I did and the car key turned and started up. Took it over to the dealer where I turned it off and then on a few times. Did it just fine. So now it is sitting here at home, I had to reprogram the radio (which meant getting a code for it since it has an anti-theft device) but the car turns off and on no problem now. Hopefully that is the end of it and I don't have to get the ignition switch replaced.

locking the ignition is very common, surprised it has never happen to you before (its been part of cars for...since before you were born)....hubby had the same issue a while ago when we were washing cars, told me I broke the car, uhm...no honey, just turn the steering wheel and the ignition will unlock--its a safety feature (I have known about it since....I had my honda which I sold in 98).
Love the response from you dealer, LOL!
so just remember if you lock it again, just turn the steering wheel until it unlocks--and it will.

hm your pizza casserole sounds like something from hamburger helper (or mock lasagna).

have brats on the menu for tonight (went shopping yesterday so we have some freshish brat buns).

Had to pull an old keyboard out of the closet this morning. Instead of a USB plug, it has the old styled round plug. The other one was typing in a code I could not understand. I hit the 'r' and it would type 'bgr', 't' would make 'nht'.

Finally got a good rain here. A little over an inch. The rain finally reached the ground under our old Cedar trees. Before we thinned out the branches, it took a 2" gully washer to wet the ground.

Our 2 year old grandson has the Hand Foot & Mouth disease. Some nasty looking stuff. The doctors, at Childrens' Mercy Hospitol, said one of the worst cases they had seen. Told the son to make sure he drinks plenty of fluids and that it will go away in a week to ten days.

Damn it! Wish I had known about that before. But now I do so I can fix it! I knew about steering lock, but I figure ignition lock wasn't needed. Especially since our Honda comes with a engine immobilizer. If they doesn't have the right chip in it the car will not turn over. Gosh darn... Now I know!

We are having tacos tonight. Yum.

Bummer. Very sorry to hear that Perk. I just saw a post on Reddit about a guy who has Hand Foot & Mouth disease. Does not look fun.

I am still getting over the crud I was infested with...cant even imagine that one (shivers).

so here is the new stupid ASSociation tricks: they are going to rip out our driveways and replace them (again---they just did this about 12 years ago)....I really dont quite understand their need to spend our money all the time, the driveways are just fine (while they seem to ignore large issues like their horrible choices for painters---our entry way STILL smells of paint--that they did in JUNE! and when they repainted the decks they didnt bother to remove any of the old paint--just painted over it so yea, its all peeling off and needs to be done yet again). I really hate this place.

Ripping up driveways definitely sounds cost effective! >.> Glad my place isn't that bad. They may paint over hinges and stuff here but at least they know to remove the old paint first.

We had our parking lots redone a couple years ago. Well a garbage truck came to empty our dumpster and left huge ruts in it. So whenever you parked in the first spot you had to cross these bumps. And they really made you bounce, even though you were going slowly to get into the spot. Yesterday they decided to fill them in. Sort of. They filled in part, but not the rest of it. So now only the right side of the car will bounce... And the stuff will probably wash away with a good rain too. Oh well...

yep sounds about par for what you pay for----

sounds like they are going to 'try' to improve what the last idiots did (last time they removed the driveways and THEN told me to take my car out of the driveway---with an 18" drop from the end of my garage to the rubble they left in my driveway, I told them they could go and well, and that my brand new car was not moving--deal with it ).
This time the are going to try to improve the bump at the end of the driveway (we have an inclined driveway at the end is a curb which is currently about 4-5" higher than the pavement IN the driveway---I would never had to worry about my car rolling out into the street with that bump there! and any friends I have had over I have had to remind them to pull out SLOWLY or lose the bottom of the car or bumper.)....we shall see if they hired better trained monkeys this time.

want ice cream--still am hoarse (this got old quickly and passed frustration and annoying....)

I just got back from CVS and saw people who are supposed to be cleaning the entryways smoking in them instead... Thanks peeps! I know you don't live here, but I do and I don't enjoy my entryway smelling like smoke. Please follow the laws and smoke 15 feet away from the entrance. >< Some people...

If it didn't affect you so much, I would sit there and watched the train monkeys and laugh at their stupidity. Because it sounds fun.

It's a bit early now for ice cream. 10:30 am. Or is it too early? Hmmmm...

they last group was a bunch of stupid baboons....so the monkeys I hope will be better.

Its never too early for ice cream!

people cant figure out how far 15 feet is, and the stupid businesses put the butt things right next to the doors so the smokers think that its ok to smoke next to them....so complain to the company that has the trays near the doors that they need to be 15 feet away and then the smokers will stand closer to them (unless its raining in which case they will stand in the doorways anways).

Only time will tell!

We have talked to the office at our apartment complex about it and they put up signs but that is about it. They don't have a rule about smoking in your own apartment, so people will do it. Oh well...
